Joan H. “Jodi” Wirth

Watch Journey of Remembrance Video TributeJoan Hitchner “Jodi” Wirth, age 88 and a lifelong resident of Woodstown, NJ, passed away surrounded by loved ones on Monday, November 6, 2017.

Born in Salem, she was the daughter of the late Howard C. and Martha Reeves Hitchner. In addition to her parents, she was predeceased by her husband, William D. Wirth, and her two older sisters, Margaret H. Creighton and Marian H. Biernbaum.

She singularly raised four children and is survived by William Donald Wirth Jr. (Christine), Margaret Scheule (Steven), David Wirth (Caron), and Suzanne Pashuck (David). Jodi was the loving grandmother of Scott (Daphne), Richard (Erin), and David Scheule, Joseph (Jacqueline) and Emily Wirth, Michael and Stephen Pashuck, and Deanne (Austin) Fulmer, and the great-grandmother of Cassidy and Callahan Scheule.

Jodi was a graduate of Woodstown High School and attended Central Methodist College in Missouri, before graduating from the University of Delaware. She went on to receive her Master’s Degree from Glassboro State College.

A long time employee of Woodstown-Pilesgrove School District, she started her career as a sixth grade teacher and eventually moved on to be a high school guidance counselor and the Director of Guidance. After retirement, Jodi continued to help others, and her passion for guiding and encouraging all those she encountered remained constant throughout her life.

Jodi was a lifelong active member of the First Baptist Church of Woodstown. She volunteered in many committees at the church, but her greatest love was her Thursday morning breakfasts at the Diner with the ladies before Bible Study with Pastor Daryle. She was a member of the Woodstown Women’s Club, a volunteer at Salem County Memorial Hospital, an avid bridge player, a prolific shopper, and an enthusiastic fan of the Woodstown Wolverines and the Delaware Blue Hens. Her happiest moments were spent surrounded by her many friends and loving family.

A funeral service will be held at 11 AM on Saturday, November 11th in the First Baptist Church of Woodstown, 117 S. Main St., Woodstown, where friends are invited to visit from 9 AM until the time of service. Burial will follow the service in the church cemetery. In lieu of flowers, her family requests memorial donations be made to The First Baptist Church of Woodstown, 117 South Main Street, Woodstown, NJ 08098.
