Gene Coll

Gene Coll, 80, of Pilesgrove, NJ, passed away on January 15, 2024. He was a loving husband, daddy, and pop pop, known to his family as “Gene.” Born on June 1, 1943, in Salem, NJ, Gene was the son of the late Elmer C Coll and Erma M (Younker) Coll.

Gene was a retired Production Superintendent, having dedicated 37 years of his life to VPI Mirrex in Delaware City, DE. He excelled in his career and retired in 2003. Gene was a hardworking and dedicated individual who left a lasting impact on his colleagues.

Outside of work, Gene had a deep love for the outdoors. He enjoyed hunting, fishing, and snowmobiling. Nature was his sanctuary, and he found solace in spending time surrounded by its beauty. One of his favorite places to visit was Rangeley, Maine, where he and his wife, Marietta Moore Coll, spent many memorable vacations throughout the seasons. Gene formed lifelong friendships in Rangeley and cherished the memories made there.

Gene’s family was his pride and joy. He was a devoted husband to Marietta for 58 years and a loving father to his daughters, Darla (Lester) Coll Shimp and Melissa (Chris) Coll Foster. He adored his grandchildren, Ashley (Caleb) Gerlock Kenyon, Joshua (Ondrea) Gerlock, Parker Shimp, Rachel Foster, and Katherine Foster. Gene also had six great-grandchildren, who brought immense joy to his life. He was a caring and supportive brother-in-law to Lauren Moore Sr. Gene leaves behind several nieces and nephews who will miss him dearly.

Gene is preceded in death by his daughter, Darla Coll Shimp, his mother-in-law, Alice L Moore, his father-in-law, Ralph Moore, his father, Elmer C Coll, his mother, Erma M (Younker) Coll, and his sister, Janice (Coll) Arquer, and brother-in-law, Ted Arquer.

Gene Coll’s legacy will live on through the memories he created with his family and friends. He will be remembered as a loving husband, daddy, and pop-pop, who made a lasting impact on those who knew him. His presence will be deeply missed.
