Dorothy Peele Kramme died peacefully at age 93 on June 6, 2017, surrounded by family, after a second stroke. Her deep caring for her family and her community made her a beloved figure to many. She leaves behind a legacy built on integrity, loyalty, generosity and grace.

As a longtime board member of Friends School at Mullica Hill and Friends Village at Woodstown, she helped guide major expansions and innovations. A fellow board member described Dorothy as follows, “(She) was the best example of a strong Quaker I know. She ran the board with strength, in a Quakerly way.” A lifelong member of Woodstown Friends Monthly Meeting, Dorothy served as a teacher, head of the First Day School, Clerk of the Meeting. She is said by some to be the guiding light of the Meeting.

While raising a young family she honed her leadership skills as an officer of the Monroeville Home and School Assn. Once the family was grown, she established the first physical education program for the Friends School at Mullica Hill and taught PE for three years on a part time basis, even though the school had no gym. The current gymnasium bears her name.

Dorothy was born on S. Main St. in Woodstown to Henry W. and Elsie Conrow Peele.

She graduated from Woodstown High School then attended Guilford College in North Carolina for two years before graduating from the University of Pennsylvania. She taught General Science and Biology at WHS before her marriage to Paul E Kramme, Jr. in 1945. Paul and Dorothy raised four children and shared a fun-loving and devoted life together until Paul’s death in 2007.

Paul and Dorothy enjoyed travel, sports, and big band music, usually in the company of old and new friends. Both were athletes, with Dorothy excelling at field hockey (all-North Carolina center forward), golf, and tennis. After Paul’s death, she moved from the family home in Monroeville into a cottage at Friends Village and enjoyed numerous travels with friends. Dorothy and her road trip buddy Alice Waddington drove thousands of miles throughout the U.S. and Canada, following their noses for unanticipated adventures.

Dorothy was predeceased by her husband Paul Jr., her brother Hank Peele, sons Steve (Diane), and Alan (Cindy). She is survived by her daughter Susan K. Seyl (Maryann McCormick), and her son Paul III (Karen), grandchildren Tabitha Boccelli (Tony), George (Eileen), Emily McPheron (Shawn), Christopher (Ivy), Peter, Ashley Davis (Russell), and Josh (Kerry).

Great-grandchildren are Danielle Norcross (Aaron), Joey Schmidt (Briana), Andrew Schmidt, Sarah Schmidt, James Boccelli, Taylor Boccelli, Hunter McPheron, Hadley McPheron, Charlotte and Madeline Davis, Russell Davis Jr., Alanah Kramme, and great-great grandchild Liliana Schmidt.

There will be a private funeral. A memorial service will be held at 2 PM on Saturday, June 17th in the Woodstown Friends Meetinghouse, 104 North Main St., Woodstown.
