Richard D. Brown

brown squareRichard D. Brown, aged 87 of Harrisonville, died peacefully on Wednesday, January 18, 2023, in Cooper Hospital while surrounded by his family.

Born in Monroeville, he was the son of the late Russell & Frances (Seibert) Brown.  Richard was a 1954 graduate of Woodstown High School.  He met his wife, Shirley, in 1952, and they were married in 1955.  He had worked at Acme Markets as a manager, working in several stores.  He then worked as a foreman for DuPont before taking over his father’s carpentry business.  He retired as a buildings and grounds supervisor from Harrison Township Elementary School.

Richard was proud of his lifetime of hard work and supporting his family.  He enjoyed camping throughout the States with his family.  He was a 70-year member and past chief of the Harrisonville Volunteer Fire Company, had been an active member of St. John’s U.M. Church, volunteered on the South Harrison Twp. school board, and was a band booster for Kingsway High School.  He cherished his tools and enjoyed building and fixing things.  He was dearly loved by his wife, daughters, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren.

Richard is survived by his wife of 67 years, Shirley (Snyder); his daughter & son-in-law, Mary Ard & Doug; his daughter, Peggy Hackett; his daughter & son-in-law, JoAnn Hall & Mark; his daughter & son-in-law, Robin Jaramillo & Rich; his grandchildren, Steven Hackett, Joannie Hall, Trevor Ard, Daniel Hall, Scott Hackett, Samantha Homa, Ryan Ard, Sydney Jaramillo, and Richard Jaramillo; and his great-grandchildren, Adelaide Hackett, Kylie Chesser, Dylan Chesser, Taegan Homa, Evan Ard, Avery Ard, Timber Homa, Clifton Hall, and Jack Hall.

A viewing for Richard will be held from 2 PM to 4 PM on Sunday, January 22nd in the H.T. Layton Funeral Home, 102 S. Main St. in Woodstown.  Funeral services will be held at 11 AM on Monday, January 23rd in the funeral home.  Burial will be private in Olivet Cemetery.  In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Harrisonville Volunteer Fire Company, PO Box 8, Harrisonville, NJ 08039 or to St. John’s U.M.
