Olga C. Pool

pool squareOlga C. (Henry) Pool, age 102 of Woodstown, passed away on Wednesday, September 20, 2023.

Born in Mickleton, NJ, she was the daughter of the late Frank and Marie Henry.

After graduating from Swedesboro High School and later Strayer College she worked as a secretary and bookkeeper for 19 years.  Olga was a dedicated wife, mother, homemaker, caregiver, and friend.

During WWII there was a major shortage of gasoline for cars, so for her summer vacation she rode her bike to Rehoboth Beach, Delaware with her best friend.  With her suitcase strapped to the back of her bike they went from Salem to Pennsville Ferry, to Dover and Rehoboth Beach and back home again.

She attended Asbury Methodist Church, was a member of the Order of the Eastern Star of NJ, and a charter member of The Night Owl Bicycle Club.

In her early retirement years, Olga and her husband Harry traveled together sightseeing and visiting every state, except Hawaii.  Olga is best known for being a social butterfly with many sets of high heels and matching purses for nights out dancing. She and Harry loved ballroom dancing and playing pinochle with the “Card Party”.   Olga was a great baker, often freezing a stockpile of cookies and brownies for her loved ones.  Even in her later years her social calendar was busier than her grandchildren!  Olga was a resident of Friends Village for 18 years where she was active on many committees and planned and participated in activities for the residents.  In her 90’s she was crowned champion in Wii Bowling and Bocce ball.

Olga is survived by her children, Linda C. Williams of Pilesgrove, Nancy P. Scarpaci of Turnersville, Stephen H. Pool of Centreville, VA, and Barbara P. Hogate of Woodstown; her grandchildren, Lora Lowery and Jeffrey Bowser, Emma and Allen Willliams, Tony and Andrew Scarpaci, Brad Pool and Jenny Gordon, Greg Hogate and Natalie Griffith; her niece, Gail Mossman, nephew, Steven Foote, and 14 great-grandchildren.

Olga was predeceased by her husband of 42 years, Harry Pool, her sisters, Flora Foote and Lillian Bliven, and her parents, Frank and Marie Henry.

Services will be held at 11 AM on Saturday, September 23, 2023 in the HT Layton Funeral Home, 102 S Main St, Woodstown.  Friends are invited to call from 10 AM to 11 AM.  Interment will be in Eglington Cemetery, Clarksboro.
