Elizabeth H. “Betty” Smith

Elizabeth H. “Betty” Smith, age 87, formerly of Daretown, died Saturday, April 30, 2022 in Golden Nursing Home in Mannington.

Born in Salem and raised in Daretown, she was the daughter of the late John Wesley & Corina Coles Hackett.  Betty was a graduate of Woodstown High School, and she had worked as a court clerk for both Upper Pittsgrove and Elk Townships.  Upon her retirement, she had worked for Walmart.  She was a loyal and faithful member of Pittsgrove Baptist Church.  She enjoyed attending Pitman Theatre, and most of all, she loved her grandchildren and great-grandchildren.

Betty is survived by her son & daughter-in-law, Douglas & Patricia; her grandchildren, Stephanie Meyers(Stephen), Justin Smith, Joshua Smith, Derek Smith, Lauren Smith, Taylor Smith, and Dylan Smith; her great-grandchildren, Gabi, Jaxon, Sage, and Addison; her brothers, Robert Hackett and Robert Fitchhorn; her sister-in-law, Ann-Louise “Lawooza” Smith; and several nieces and nephews.  In addition to her parents, she was predeceased by her husband, Paul H. Smith, in June of 2001; her son, Stephen M. Smith, in December of 2017; her brothers, Raymond, John, Alfred, and Harold Hackett; and her sisters, Dorothy Fitchhorn, Ella Srymanske, Rachel Thompson, Lillian McFarland, and infant sister Corina Hackett.

Funeral services will be held at 11 AM on Thursday, May 5th in the H.T. Layton Funeral Home, 102 S.
