Chung Sio Wang

Chung Sio Wang, age 97, passed away on September 25, 2020, in Woodstown, New Jersey, attended in his final days by his devoted children. For over 65 years, Mr. Wang was lovingly married to Liu King Jin Wang, who pre-deceased him in 2009. In their lifetime, Mr. and Mrs. Wang experienced extraordinary challenges out of which they produced great accomplishments. In the 1940’s, Mr. Wang was a young businessman in China, who along with his father and older brother, managed a family trading company. In 1948, Mr. and Mrs. Wang and their two small children fled China, then in the throes of the Communist Revolution, to South Korea. In 1958, to escape the devastation of war-torn Korea, the young family, now with seven children, migrated again, this time to the United States.

In America, Mr. Wang started yet again from scratch to build a new life for his family. In the beginning, he knew no English and his Chinese business skills were not useful for employment in this country. He quickly learned the new language, he provided for his family by working in whatever employment was available, no matter how menial, and in 1969, he and his family became naturalized U.S. citizens. The family grew to include eight children. For many years Mr. Wang worked as a house painter, mostly for a small contractor in Salem, NJ, and later as a chemical worker for the DuPont Company in Deep Water, NJ. He retired from DuPont in 1987, having enjoyed his last working years as an industrial sign painter, a job in which he proudly made use of his calligraphy talents developed in China. After retirement, Mr. Wang enjoyed traveling with Mrs. Wang, frequently visited with his family, and loved Chinese opera. He is survived by six children, 12 grandchildren, and 16 great grandchildren.
