Walter Donald Pidgeon

Walter Donald Pidgeon, age 84 of Carneys Point, went home to be with the Lord on Tuesday, December 12, 2017 in Christiana Hospital.

Born in Swedesboro on May 28, 1933, he was the son of the late Isaac & Eleanor (Dawson) Pidgeon. Walter was a 1951 graduate of Penns Grove High School, and he was a self-employed farmer, working on his family farm in Carneys Point. Later, he worked at DuPont Chambers Works, retiring in 1985. He was a member of St. Paul’s and Emmanuel United Methodist Churches in Penns Grove, and he enjoyed hunting, gardening, watching professional wrestling, and spending time with his family in Ocean City. He loved his family dearly, including his little puppies, Wee One and Missy.

Walter is survived by his wife of 62 years, Joanne C. (Houser) Pidgeon; his children, Karen Campbell (Bruce), Susan Birchmire (David), Nancy Poplos (Ken), and Linda Gaudet; his grandchildren, Bruce Campbell, Jr., Rochelle Campbell, David Birchmire, Jr., Laura Drummond, Steven Gaudet, Whitney Gaudet, and Nick Poplos; his great-grandchildren, Cole and Leah Campbell, and Zoey and Abby Drummond. In addition to his parents, he was predeceased by his sister, Gladys Pastell; his brother, William Pidgeon; his grandson, Ken Poplos, II, US Marine Corps PFC; his great-granddaughter, Makena Birchmire; and his grandson-in-law, Rusty Drummond.

Funeral services will be held at 11 AM on Saturday, December 16th in the H.T. Layton Funeral Home, 102 S. Main St., Woodstown, where friends are invited to visit from 10 AM until the time of service.
