Shirley Ann Whitzell, age 68 of Carneys Point, died Tuesday, August 23, 2016 in Christiana Hospital.

Born in Logan, Township, NJ, Shirley was the daughter of the late Joseph & Rose (Leonardi) Chambless. She was a graduate of Penns Grove High School, and she worked in record keeping for Hercules Chemical Company in Wilmington for 35 years, retiring in 2001. She enjoyed cooking and was famous for her tomato sauce and meatballs. She also enjoyed hummingbirds and cross stitching, and fulfilled her dream of going to Alaska recently while she was in remission from Leukemia.

Shirley loved her family and cherished the time she spent with them. She had a great sense of humor and a generous heart. She was kind to everyone and taking care of the people she loved was very important to her.

She is survived by her husband, Dave Whitzell; her daughter & son-in-law, Christie Whitzell & Rich DeAngelo; her stepson & his wife, Wayne & Tammy Whitzell and their daughter, Luciana; her nieces, Lauren (& Michael) Bevivino and Erin (&Tom) Galati; and her great-nieces, Kaliegh Bevivino and Brooklyn Galati. In addition to her parents, she was predeceased by her sister, Lois Sarricks.

A memorial service will be held at 7 PM on Tuesday, August 30th in the H.T. Layton Funeral Home, 102 S. Main St., Woodstown, where friends are invited to visit from 5 PM until the time of service.
