Robert W. Stecher

Robert W. “Bob” Stecher, age 80 of Woodstown, died Friday, October 6, 2017 in his home with his family by his side.

Born in Jefferson, NJ, he was the son of the late Robert W. & Rose (Swanson) Stecher. Bob attended the Camden Vo-Tech School, and he worked his entire career in demolition contracting. He started working with Cleveland Wrecking in 1970 as a demolition superintendent, and in 1997, he continued working for Pierson Construction until his retirement in December of 2010. Bob enjoyed hunting, fishing and boating. He also had a passion for race cars, first as an owner/operator in the 1960’s at the old Vineland Speedway circle track and later regularly attending Bridgeport Speedway. Most important of all, he adored his grandchildren and great-grandchildren, and they adored him.

Bob is survived by his wife of 42 years, Joyce M. (Hislop); his son, Bob H.(Carol) Stecher; his daughters, Debbie A. Stecher and Lisa R. Dickenson; his grandchildren, Leslie(Bobby), Jake(Sherri), Shannon, Harry(Tori), Bobby, Tina, and Laura; his great-grandchildren, Brody, Lilah, Braden, Bruno, Lily, Blake, and Emilie; his sisters, Dolly(Cliff) and Kathi; his aunt, Emily; his sisters-in-law, Carol, Rose, Elaine, and Diane; his brother-in-law, Richard; and many nieces, nephews, and cousins. In addition to his parents, Bob was predeceased by his sisters, Rosemarie and Louise, and his brothers, Richard and Kenny.

A memorial service will be held at 11 AM on Friday, October 13th in the H.T. Layton Funeral Home, 102 S. Main St., Woodstown, where friends are invited to visit from 9 AM until the time of service.
