Light a Candle

James (Jim) Martin Sr, 48, of Monroeville and formerly of Elmer passed away suddenly on Friday May 26, 2017. He was born in Vineland to Charles Sr. and Elaine Martin. He was pre-deceased by his father in 1995, paternal grandmother Delia Martin of Elmer, maternal grandmother Grace Hoffman of Vineland and maternal grandfather Romaine “Babe” Hoffman of Millville as well as many aunts and uncles.

He was employed by UPS for approximately 30 years as a driver. His greatest love was baseball. He played farm league, little league (where he established a new home run record), and senior league in Elmer. He also played high school ball for Schalick High School where he established a new home run record and strike out record for Gloucester County Community College where he pitched a shut out game. He also had the privilege of playing in Cooperstown, N.Y. His second love was fishing at the various streams, rivers, ponds and Salmon River in NY. He is survived by his wife Andrea (Sharp), His mother, his brother Chuck, three sons James (Jimmy) Jr., Derik and Shane as well as three grandchildren Koen, Ally, Mason and his two pet companions Angie and Pedro.

Funeral services will be held on Wednesday May 31, 2017 at 8pm in H.T. Layton Funeral Home, 102 South Main Street, Woodstown, NJ 08098. A viewing will be held on Wednesday evening from 5pm to 8pm at the funeral home.
