Irene H. Harris

Irene H. Harris, age 87 of Pittsgrove Twp. and formerly of Monroeville, died Friday, January 5, 2018 in Cooper Hospital, Camden.

Born in Bridgeton, she was the daughter of the late Arthur D. & Frances (Meyers) Holmes. Irene was a 1948 graduate of Bridgeton High School, and she married J. Neil Harris on August 30, 1953. She gave music lessons on the marimba and piano for 45 years in her home. She entertained musically playing the marimba locally for service clubs and resort hotels in the New England states. She enjoyed sewing, quilting, wood carving, and traveling in the family’s RV. She was a member of the United Methodist Church of Monroeville where she served as Sunday school secretary for 26 years. She was also a member of the Seven Oaks Club of Bridgeton and the Older Youth 4-H Club. Recently she resided in Friends Village where she was very active with the social gatherings and activities and enjoyed her time spent with her fellow residents.

Irene is survived by her son & daughter-in-law, Barry W. & Terry L. Harris; her daughter, Barbara J. Harris; her grandsons, Troy (Ashley), Cody (Brittni), and Brian; her great-granddaughter, Claire; and her siblings, Josephine and Richard Holmes. She was predeceased by her husband, Neil, in July of 2003; her son, Brian in 1957; her daughter, Diane in 1959; and her siblings, Robert and Nancy Holmes.

Funeral services will be held at 11 AM on Wednesday, January 10th in the H.T. Layton Funeral Home, 102 S. Main St., Woodstown, where friends are invited to visit from 10 AM until the time of service. Burial will follow the service in Lawnside Cemetery, Pilesgrove.
