Hazel Kernan nee (Shidner) age 90 of Hancocks Bridge passed away on Saturday, November 25, 2017 with her family by her side.

Hazel was born on March 26, 1927 to the late Jesse Sr. and Margaret (Hancock) Shidner.

She lived the majority of her life in Hancocks Bridge and worked 29 years at the Salem County Nursing Home and for Rutgers Extension Office before retiring in 1995. She and her late husband of 64 years, Paul Kernan, traveled extensively in the United States and abroad.

She was a member of St. Mary’s of Salem and Hancocks Bridge United Methodist Church and Hancocks Bridge Fire Auxiliary.

Hazel is survived by her sons, Michael, Patrick (Sharon) and Jeffrey (PeggyAnn) and son-in-law Brian Waddington, 7 grandchildren, 14 great-grandchildren, 1 great-great-grandchild and many nieces and nephews.

In addition to her husband she was predeceased by her daughter, Teresa Waddington, daughter-in-law Judie Kernan, brothers Thomas, Harley, and Jesse Jr.

Funeral services will be held on Thursday, November 30, 2017 at 10 AM in H.T.Layton Funeral Home, 102 South Main Street, Woodstown, NJ. A viewing will be held on Thursday morning from 9 AM until the time of service at the funeral home.

Burial will follow in Lawnside Cemetery, Pilesgrove, NJ.
