Cecil J. Colsch

Cecil J. Colsch, age 82 of Woodstown, died Friday, May 26, 2017, after a brief but accelerated illness, at Seasons Hospice in Christiana Hospital in Newark, DE.

Born in New Albin, Iowa, he was the son of the late Peter L. & Anna (Mettille) Colsch. Cecil was the Salutatorian of his high school graduating class in New Albin, then he joined the Air Force during the Korean War, serving four years. He earned his BS in Agriculture Engineering from Ohio State University, and he was very proud of his alma mater. He retired from Progresso Foods in Vineland after over 25 years of service. Cecil was a loyal and very proud fan of his Ohio State Buckeyes, and he enjoyed all the Philadelphia sports teams. He was a 47 year member of St. Joseph’s Church/Catholic Community of the Holy Spirit where he was a member of the Knights of Columbus. He served 36 years on the Borough of Woodstown Zoning Board, and he enjoyed golfing and gardening.

Cecil is survived by his wife, Betty (Kirkpatrick), whom he married on August 3, 1957, and with whom he was preparing to celebrate their 60th wedding anniversary. He is also survived by his daughter & son-in-law, Carrie & Jim Mayhan; his son, William Nicholas Colsch; his daughter & son-in-law, Ann & Eric Grubb; and his granddaughters, Kate Colsch, Maria Mayhan, and Caroline Mayhan. In addition to his parents, he was predeceased by his sons, Peter Joseph Colsch and Patrick Jerome Colsch.

Friends are invited to visit his family from 6 PM to 8 PM Thursday evening, June 1st, in the H.T. Layton Funeral Home, 102 S. Main St., Woodstown. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 11 AM on Friday, June 2nd in the Catholic Community of the Holy Spirit Church, formerly St. Joseph’s, 51 Broad St., Woodstown. Burial will follow Mass in the church cemetery. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Knights of Columbus, Dr. Devlin Council #10392, 116 West Grant Street, Woodstown, NJ 08098.
